Anne Louise Grant was born in Cleveland Ohio on April 28th, 1931, to Louis Paul and Mildred Louise Busser and was the first of eight children. At the age of fourteen she was relentlessly chased by a young man named Montford Sterling Grant. One day, Anne was riding her bike down Rocky River drive when a white 1952 Plymouth pulled up beside her. Montford was in the car and yelled to her, “hi Anne.” They engaged in a short conversation before he asked her where she lived. She replied, “In the house on the corner of 167th and Chatfield. Two days later Montford showed up on her front porch. Anne’s mother answered the door, not looking happy due to the age of the man standing before her who was asking to see her daughter. Anne and Montford sat on the couch talking for a while before ending their evening. Montford returned to the house two days later. This time while they sat in the living room talking, Anne’s father, Louis came down the stairs and sat in a chair across the room from them. Soon after, Louis invited Montford to chat in the kitchen. Louis said to Monty “are you serious?” (The basic implication here was that Montford was too old for his daughter). Montford sternly replied, “Yes I am, I like what I see and I’ll be back.” And Monty did come back. After three years of dating Monty proposed to Anne on that same couch inside her home. “Let’s get married” he said, and her quick nonchalant response, “okay.” When they told Anne’s father, he took Anne aside and had a long talk with her, but she never changed her mind. She was going to marry this man and she did. They were married on September 30th, 1947, and soon after became a mother to her six children; Ronald Sterling, Randall Kevin, Alan Jerome, Daniel Omar, Renee Louise, and Michelle Elise.
While raising their children Anne and Monty built the house on Stearns Rd in Olmsted Falls, Ohio which they called home for 28 years. In 1977 Anne and Monty sold the property and moved to California and purchased a house on Schulenberg Ave in Modesto, a house which they have called home ever since. During her time here, Anne enjoyed reading, traveling, gambling and scratching lottery tickets. Anne and Monty had the privilege celebrating 71 years of marriage and 75 years if being in love.
Anne Louise Grant, 88, became ill on her 88th birthday and after battling this illness for three weeks, she passed into glory on May 19th, 2019, holding her husband’s hand and surrounded by family.
