Barbara was born in San Francisco, California on March 22, 1925. She was the only child of Fred and Sara Baur. Upon graduation from Lowell High School in 1943, she moved with her parents to the Los Angeles area where she enrolled in classes at UCLA. Upon completing her studies, Barbara began working as a secretary. She was working as an executive secretary for Pacific Bell when she met her husband, Eugene Hawkes. Barbara and Gene were married in 1959. In 1966 their son David was born and six years later they moved to Yosemite. In Yosemite, Barbara worked as a secretary for the District Ranger until 1982, when the family moved to Turlock, CA. Barbara then went to work for CSU, Stanislaus where she eventually became Secretary to the President until she retired in 1994. In retirement, Barbara enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Rachel, playing bridge with friends, traveling, and football.
Barbara is survived by her step-daughters Gretchen Loos and Christine Clark (Randy), her son David Hawkes (Andrea) and her granddaughter Rachel Hawkes. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends who she considered family.
Barbara was predeceased by her father Fred Baur, her mother Sara Baur, and her husband Eugene Hawkes.
Services will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA 95326. Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 10:00am
