Bernita, also known as Bicky was born in Curtis Nebraska to Harold William Bick and Erma Elizabeth (LaBounty) Bick. She passed peacefully at her home of 72 years surrounded by loved ones.
Her family came to California when she was three years old. They finally settled in Modesto when she was in the 3rd grade. She graduated as Valedictorian from Hart Ranson School in 1946 and then graduated from Modesto High School in 1950.
In 1951, she met the love of her life at the Merry Gardens Roller Rink in Modesto. Our father, Richard (Dick) Roton worked there and she was being ignored by her date. The rest is history. They got married on September 8th, 1951 in Carson City, Nevada. They remained married until his passing in 1998. In 1952 they bought a home in Modesto, where they raised their six children. She lived in the home until her passing. In 1973 our parents purchased part ownership in Turlock Refrigeration Center and then started Robic Refrigeration in 1975. Still in business.
Mom was the original Co-Owner and Office Manager of Robic until her retirement. She previously had worked at Del Este Water, Crystal Pool Service and Downey High School in the library. A few years after dad's passing, mom retired and traveled the world. She went to England, France, Portugal, Ireland, on cruises, scenic bus trips, Hawaii, Alaska and road trips across the U.S. Photography was one of mom's favorite hobbies. Anything from scenery to unique doorways to people. Another favorite hobby was watching the Los Angeles Dodgers, her favorite baseball team. She was a diehard Dodger fan.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Erma Bick, her husband Richard (Dick) Roton, her brothers Richard Bick, Delbert Bick and John Bick, her two oldest children Richard(Chris) Roton and Pamela Roton Robin.
She is survived by her brother Henry (Butch) Bick of Gardena California, sons Miak Roton (Valerie) of Tacoma Washington, Dan Roton (Marlese) of Aptos California, Kevin Roton (Claudina) and Bob Roton (Melinda) both of Turlock California. She's also survived by 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
We want to express tons of gratitude to Community Hospice, Health Aide Rosa Ortiz, family members and friends that helped us care for mom during the last few weeks. There will be a private family interment followed by a Celebration of Life on October 20th from 2 to 5 pm at the Boy Scout Hall in Enslen Park. 400 Enslen Ave, Modesto California.
It'll be a catered event.
