Carl Joseph Gisler Jr.

Carl was born to the late, Carl Joseph & Josephine Gisler in, Esparto, Ca. After a few brief moves around Central California, his family settled in the Modesto area in the 1920's.

During the Great Depression era, Carl left home at 13 and went to work for Sonoma Land Company, working cattle. In June of 1937 Carl was working for the Caldwell dairy, and bought his first truck that started Carl Gisler Trucking. He hauled cattle and hay, and grain.

Carl married the late Geraldine Arsenio, also from Modesto. They had 2 children together. Carl (Joe) Joseph Gisler III, and Nancy Gisler.

In the 1960’s moving the Trucking Company out to the Gates road property, he was befriended by the Mapes Family, and had the pleasure to meet John Wayne.

Carl was a lifetime member of the San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club. He was also a member of the California Trucking Association.

Carl renewed his connection with the late Betty Alves in 1996, and semi-retired in 1997. He continued to be involved in the trucking business, and custom grain harvesting. He was proud to be almost a centenarian (100+ years of age) and to have worked his land and trucking for 75+ years.

His daughter Nancy Keller, of Portugal Two grandchildren, Carl Joseph (Dawnita) Gisler IV, Sherman Gisler, and One great-grandchild, Carl (Joey) Joseph Gisler V, of Modesto and many nieces and nephews survive Carl. He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine, his son Carl (Joe) Gisler III, and his companion Betty Alves.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Friday, March 21, 2014 from 4:00 - 8:00pm. Funeral service will be Lakewood Memorial Park Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11:00am. With reception to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
