Charles Haskel Hyatt, age 77, of Modesto, California passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022. Charles was born in Paducah, Texas, on January 31, 1945. Charles is preceded in death by his father, Haskel Leroy Hyatt and also his mother, Hazel Helen Hyatt (Shehan). Charles had seven (7) siblings: Lorene (Rene) Louisea Keeney, Tommy 'Gene' Hyatt, Billy Ray Hyatt, Verna Helen Hyatt, Harold Dee Hyatt, Judy Faye Brown, Naida June Wingo and Charles Haskel Hyatt being the youngest. Charles and his wife, Patricia (Patt) Ann Hyatt, were married on July 27th, 1963, and raised two (2) children, Michael and Matthew Hyatt. Charles is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patt, son Michael, daughter-in-law Millie Weber-Hyatt, grandson Matt 'Matty' Hyatt, step-grandson John Michael Weber, step-granddaughter Raelynn Weber, granddaughter Kali Hyatt, granddaughter Abrianna Hyatt and grandson Mhichil Hyatt.
Charles worked for the Maintenance Department of Gallo Winery for 33 years before retiring in 2001. Charles and Patt have been active members of the Squab Association of California since 1993 and Patt continues to raise squabs to this day. Charles was known for his quick wit, an infamous jokester, his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit. Charles had a life-long passion for raising different types of birds including pigeons, dove, "Show Bird" and Rhode Island Red roosters, Golden and Ring Neck pheasants, Coturnix, Button and Bob White quail, Canadian geese, Muscovy and Wood ducks, parakeets, peacocks and an assorted mix of other fowl. Charles would often hatch his birds from eggs using an incubator and continue to nurture them throughout their lives. It's no wonder Charles' favorite cartoon character was Foghorn Leghorn.
Charles was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He left such a remarkable impression on so many people that once you met him, you were not likely to ever forget him. He was deeply loved by family and friends, too numerous to name. Charles is at rest, but we hold him close within our hearts, in our minds and in our spirit. Remembering all the good times at family gatherings, the hearty laughter, the mischievous grin, never seeing him without a hat on and the simplicity in which he lived his life. His relationship with his wife Patt is one to be envied and emulated. Married for 59 years and best friends for so much longer. Charles even spoke about beating Patt in a foot race in the 4th Grade at Waterford Elementary School.
