Elpidia Alcántar was a woman of strength, deep faith, and boundless love for her family. Born in Mexico to Reynaldo and Maria, she courageously came to the United States at just 14 years old, determined to continue her education and build a better life. Her perseverance, strength and hardworking spirit remained with her throughout her life.
She was the devoted wife of Enrique for over 50 years, and together they built a life centered on family with their three daughters. Her grandchildren always held a special place in her heart and brought her so much joy, laughter and love. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, giving of herself wholeheartedly to the people she loved. Her love was often found in the little things. It was in the small details that she demonstrated her caring nature, such as sending her family home with freshly prepared meals, remembering a grandchild’s favorite toy, or taking an interest in the things that brought them happiness. In her own way, she showed those she loved that she was thinking of them, that she knew them, and that they mattered. To her, love was not simply something to be spoken but rather love was best expressed through actions.
Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life and deeply intertwined with the love she gave. She held a strong love for God and a special devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Her faith was a gift she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Through her example, she taught her family that faith provides strength and guidance, and that the bonds of family are among life’s greatest blessings. Her hope was that the love she gave and the faith she cherished would continue to flourish through the relationships her family built with one another. She also found happiness in gardening, watching birds, and appreciating the simple blessings of everyday life.
Elpidia leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, perseverance, and generosity. Through her example, she taught her family that love is shown through actions, faith provides strength, and family is one of life’s greatest blessings. Though she will be deeply missed, her love and gifts she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Enrique; her daughters, Marissa Perry (Daniel), Cristina Alcántar, and Rocio Espinosa (Victor); and her beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Brianna, Annabella, Mia, and Andrew. She is also survived by her siblings, Trinidad, Reynaldo, Lucila, and Leticia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reynaldo Diaz Sr. and Maria de Jesus Diaz Martinez, and her siblings, Willebaldo and Ester.
May she rest in the loving and merciful arms of God, surrounded by His eternal peace. May perpetual light shine upon her, and may she rest in peace. Amen.
