Evelyn Alverda Christiansen

Evelyn Alverda Sturm Christiansen was born May 24, 1912, in Sacramento, California to Albert and Verna Sturm. She moved to Modesto in 1924. She graduated from Modesto High School in 1931. She then took nurses’ training in Stockton at the Dameron Hospital and also at French Camp. She received her RN in 1934, and moved back to Modesto and took her first job as a nurse at Stanislaus County Hospital on Scenic Drive.

On December 14, 1936, she married Carl Christiansen and moved to their new home he had built on Adams Avenue. , now known as East Orangeburg Avenue where she has lived until her death. Carl preceded her in death in 1992. They had been married for 56 years. She was a member of the Modesto Central Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Evelyn is survived by her brother Albert Sturm(Beverly) of St. George Utah, son David Carl Christiansen (Fran), of Modesto, daughter Arlene Sue Webb (Fred), of Waterford. Her grandchildren, Debbie Curry (Homer), Richard Webb(Amy), Vicki Ewing (Kevin), Ron Webb(Kellie), Terri Taaffe (Patrick), Dan Callahan(Debbie), , Kelly Lawrence(Dayle), 17 great grandchildren, Jared and Caleb Curry, Xander and Quinn Ewing, Nathan Watson, Heather and Jaime Woodall, Ashley Vaughan, Rachel, Kaia, Kensie, and Ellie Taaffee, Megan, Bryce, Erin, Chris Callahan, and Calvin Lawrence.and 2 great great grandchildren Warren and Ashton Vaughan plus many nephews and nieces.

Evelyn died peacefully in her home on February 9. Visitation in the Heritage Chapel February 22nd, 2018 from 5-8 PM. Funeral service will be February 23, 2018 at 10 A.M.
