He was born May 19, 1957, in Boise Idaho to Hitlon and Winifred Sherman Dick. He spent his childhood in Idaho, Washington, Utah and finally California where he graduated from Dublin High School. While he started off as a mechanic for a Chrysler dealership, Fred would eventually choose a different path and become an agent for Farmers Insurance.
Fred enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, was always working on his next home improvement project, and could often be found tinkering with his Ford Model A. Fred was a member of the Modesto Area A’s Model A Car Club and always looked forward to participating in the Modesto Independence Day Parade. Most importantly, Fred was a doting grandfather--there wasn’t a week that went by where he wasn’t spending time with his local grandchildren or making a video call to his out of state grandson.
He is preceded in death by his father, Hilton Dick; mother, Winifred Dick; brother William (Bill) Dick; maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his family, Kathy Dick; two children, Jason Dick, and Michelle de Freitas; four grandchildren, Liam de Freitas, and Leo, Micah, and Elsie Dick; a brother, Steve Dick.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor Fred’s love for his animals, we ask that those who wish to participate donate to an animal charity of their choosing.
