Gemma Louise Nelson, 46, from London, England, moved to Modesto, California in 1989 at the age of 10 when her father was reassigned while serving in the U.S. Air Force. The transition from England to the U.S. was a significant change, but Gemma quickly adapted, making friends and embracing her new life. Despite her British accent occasionally setting her apart, she was chosen as Valedictorian in the 8th grade—a testament to her intelligence and determination.
Gemma graduated from high school and trained as a phlebotomist, though she soon discovered her true passion lay elsewhere. Her vibrant personality and love for connecting with people led her to a fulfilling career as a mixologist. She was known for her kind heart, infectious laughter, and ability to make lasting friendships wherever she went.
A devoted mother, Gemma raised her daughter, Gaden A. Roberts, with strength and love, always encouraging her to face life’s challenges with confidence. Her son, Justin D. Nelson, was also a cherished part of her life. Gemma’s family meant everything to her, and she passed down cherished British traditions to her children with pride.
Gemma had a zest for life and a deep love for the holidays—especially Christmas, which she began preparing for with enthusiasm right after Thanksgiving. She adored cats, often having as many as four at a time, and found joy in beachcombing for seashells and fishing with her father, even when the fish weren’t biting.
She is survived by her children, Gaden and Justin; her brother, Simon; and her parents, Larry and Gillian Trickett. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Margaret and William Pingram, and her aunt, Amanda, all of London, England.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Gemma’s memory to a charity of your choice.
Gemma’s warmth, humor, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
