Jerry Dickens, of Knights Ferry, CA, went home to be with the Lord on August 11, 2012. His wife and children were by his side. Jerry was born in Modesto, CA to parents Arnold and Helen Dickens, where he was raised working on his family farm. As a teenager, he enjoyed waterskiing and was a member of the Modesto Ski Bums. At the age of 15, he was involved in a waterskiing accident that left him paralyzed. His courage was evidence that he would never let his challenges define him. He went on to graduate from Thomas Downey H.S., and along with his uncle, Lloyd Dickens, established a successful furniture business, Dickens Furniture. In 1967, he married Kathy Cochran, his wife of 45 years. Together, they raised a daughter Nicole and a son Matthew. Along with spending time with his family, Jerry enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. In 1982, Jerry and Kathy moved their family to Knights Ferry where he became involved with the community as the treasurer of the Knights Ferry Fire and Rescue. Over the years, he raised cattle and especially enjoyed his registered Santa Gertrudis. The most important thing was having his family by his side in all he did. Jerry will be remembered for his never-ending kindness and his incredible love of life. His many friends are a reflection of his character. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Helen Dickens. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his children Nicole Hixon (Jason) of Oakdale, Matthew Dickens (Jenna) of Oakdale, and brother Tom Dickens (Sharlene) of Modesto. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren; Rawlin and Holly Hixon, Wyatt, Luke, Levi and Maddie Dickens. Remembrances may be sent to: Calvary Chapel Oakdale, P.O.
