Jose Juan was born in Acuitzio del Canje, Michoacan, Mexico on July 16, 1964 to Jose Cortez Simon and Herlinda Hernandez. He travelled to California with his family in 1970, was given a “new birth date” of July 17, and became a man of many trades. His siblings are Elena (Campos), Jose Luis, Miguel, Felipe, Irma (Trujillo), Eva, and Hilda (Jimenez.)
In 1986, he met Denise Bravo and dated for 6 years before marrying on October 3rd, 1992. They had two children, Valeria and Juan.
Jose graduated from Patterson High School in 1983, attended Modesto Junior College for agriculture, Cal-Trade welding school, and received his license to become a real estate agent. His love for welding began in 1990, which led to his very own business, Simon’s Welding Manufacturing, for 17 years. There was no job that was too little or too large for this creative man. He did not hesitate to crawl in small spaces or climb up 100 feet.
When he was not welding, he would be gardening, watching his Seattle Seahawks play, or eating tortillas with chile. Anyone that had the opportunity to meet him would know he was a caring, quick wit, knowledgeable, and humorous man that had a way with metal. Despite his illnesses, he would never complain and would use it to motivate himself and others around him.
Jose is survived by his children, siblings, and mother. He was preceded in death by his father, wife, and eldest brother, Jose Luis.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community
