On behalf of the Modesto Chapter of the American Red Cross I would like to send our condolences to the Carrillo Family.
 Joe was a volunteer with the Red Cross First Aid Team and was invaluable to us as a knowledgeable and dedicated volunteer. He participated with the team when the team was tasked with providing first aid for spectators at John Thurmond Field during the Modesto Nuts home games. His presence helped us on many long nights manning our stations and we are grateful to for his leadership and assistance.
We are deeply saddened to hear of his passing.

To Carrillo Family
Uncle Joe was so sweet and kind to me growing up. He was truly a great uncle, opened his arms up no matter how long it's been sense he has seen you. Always had a smile on his face. I remember as a kid coming to spend the night with Cristina and "Baby Joey" aka Joe and we would go swimming, watch movies, play board games and he was always right there playing with us or watching us laughing joking with us. I appreciated how much he and the family was there for me when my mom passed away in 2016 and I couldn't thank y'all enough. He gave me the biggest hug and I'll never forget that hug. I've lost touch over the years but the memories never fade. I truly admire him and so sad he is gone. I'm sending all the love hugs and prayers I can for the family. Stay strong loves.

Throughout my life, I have been so blessed and fortunate to have neighbors like the Carrillo family. From my early life and all throughout high school, I spent countless days over at their house, going on trips with them, and eating all of their food. Every time I was with them, I was always treated like an extension of their family. I know that one of the biggest reasons I always felt so welcomed was Joe. He constantly role modeled what it truly meant to be a loving and caring father. I hold the highest respect for him and how he treated other people. I will always cherish the memories I have with Joe and the Carrillo family.

	Joseph Luis Carrillo, fondly known as “Pep” or “Pepe” by his friends and family, passed away February 25, 2023. Joseph passed away in Modesto California surrounded by his wife and children at the age of 65. Joseph was born February 19, 1958 in Chihuahua Mexico to Jose Carrillo and Trinidad Reyes. He was raised in Hayward California by his uncle and aunt Louis and Carolina Jordan who he recognized as his parents. 
	Joseph met his wife Keri in Dublin in 1985. Joseph and Keri moved to Ceres in 1989, and were married April 6 1991. Joseph and Keri had two children, Cristina and Joseph. Joseph had a love for firefighting. He was a volunteer firefighter for Fairview Fire Department. After volunteering as a firefighter, Joseph accepted a job with the City of San Jose in 1981. Joseph was with the San Jose Fire Department for 30 years. He later retired in 2011 as a Battalion Chief. 
	Throughout his life Joseph had a love for baseball and softball. He made life long friends through the SJFD softball team and Ceres Youth Baseball organization. After retirement Joseph explored his love for baseball. He was a coach, the Vice President and then the President of Ceres Youth Baseball. Joseph was the junior varsity baseball coach at Ceres High School, John C Kimball High School, and Peter Johansen High School. Even though he stopped coaching baseball, the impact he had on his players was everlasting. 
	Joseph was preceded in death by his father Louis Jordan of Ceres and is survived by his wife Keri Carrillo, son Joseph Carrillo, daughter Cristina Baca, son-in-law Matthew Baca, and granddaughter Mallory Baca. Joseph is also survived by his mother Carolina Jordan, aunt Tila Chacon and brothers and sisters.

Almost 8 years ago, I was playing football at Ceres High. I got tackled and messed my ankle up really badly. Joe immediately pulled me off the field and evaluated my ankle. In the moment, I was so mad at him because I just wanted to go back out there and play. Looking back, I couldn’t be more thankful for him. He prioritized my health and safety over my want to play. He cared about me and did what was right. That was the man that Joe was. He did what was right, he was selfless, and he helped others often. The world needs more men like Joe. He was a great neighbor, friend, coach, father, and man. He will be missed dearly. 

Carrillo Family,

I am saddened to learn of the passing of retired Deputy Chief Joe Carrillo - I extend you my condolences.  Not only was Joe a wonderful person but an excellent officer with the San Jose Fire Department.  I had the privilege of working alongside Captain, then Chief Carrillo in many capacities.  Joe displayed an understanding of people that oftentimes brought both balance and insight.  I will forever honor him and his diligence in performing his duties as an officer, not to mention the way he carried himself as a man.

May God be with the Carrillo Family during this difficult time.

When planing those pool dates with the girls Dad would always be worried if we needed the grill, the pool heated, or anything just to make his baby girl, Cristina, happy. 

We would spend all night in the back yard talking about who knows what, laughing and enjoying the moonlight in the water. This one night we were laughing and making jokes ( jokes you wouldn’t make in front of your dad or any adult you respect) and Dad just laughed and turned on the pool-side light. I’m sure he said something funny and slick but that was Poppa Joe; he was real, it never felt like he was judging you, he opened his heart and home to his daughter’s crazy friends. 

He was always there to tell stories about all the times working with the SJFD, the times he spent coaching Cristina and Joey and even after Joey aged out, he still continued to coach. 

Dad Joseph was a ray of sunshine - he was better than that, he was the sun but with sunglasses and a bucket hat because he was just that cool. B) 
Dad may you keep shining on us.

I promise to hold mama Keri tight, dry my hands with a towel and put it back in the drawer like you used to :p
I promise to keep your baby girl in check and continue to drive her nuts.
I promise to annoy Joey.
I promise to keep Matt on his toes and make sure he continues to take our girls on as many Disney trips as they want.
But most importantly I promise to speak of you to MJ, your adorable granddaughter. I already know she’s thinking about you every second, every day.

It was so sad to hear of the passing of my dear friend Joe. We were in the same fire academy back in 1981, where we became good friends. He was a great classmate. A few years later, we worked together at Fire Station #1 in downtown San Jose. Joe, always with a smile, was a good firefighter and friend to all who worked with him. We fought many fires together, shared many meals and good times in those days. We separated when we both promoted, but we would run into each other now and then, and talk about the good ol' days. I will miss my brother and be consoled that he is no longer in pain and he is in a better place in Heaven. God Bless you Joe and your family.
