Joyce Ann Torkelson

Joyce Torkelson passed away peacefully in Modesto with her family by her side.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Born in Southern California, she moved with her family to Modesto the start of her senior year. She graduated at Modesto High School in 1952. In 1955 Joyce met her husband Jerry and the two were married on April 22, 1955. Joyce was doing Secretarial work in downtown Modesto and became a excellent homemaker and stay home mom.

Her interests were sewing, crocheting, reading, playing the card game Rook, domino's, cooking her families famous tacos, baking Christmas cookies, she loved Southern Gospel Music, Vacationing on the Coast and spending time with family and friends, She attended many of her sons little league baseball games. Joyce was a member of Calvary Temple Church and she was a born again Christian. After her children were grown, Joyce worked at Empire Meat Company in the Produce for 5 years. Then in 1981 she went to work for See's Candy at the Vintage Faire Mall for 15 Years.

Joyce is survived by her children Hank (Carla), Rob (Cherise), Marci (Jim), Gary (Valorie), Grandchildren Michael, Christopher, Nathan, Philip, Ryan, Megan and Nicholas as well as 4 Great Grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be at Big Valley Grace Church, 4040 Tully Rd in the Fireside room on Tuesday, December 16th at 11 A.M.
