

Kathleen H. (Orr) Slinden, 88, of Modesto, California, died June 23, 2012 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, California surrounded by her four daughters, her five grandchildren, her eight great-grandchildren, and her great-great-grandson.
Mrs. Slinden was born February 28, 1924 in Dakota County, Minnesota, the daughter of Lee and Norma Orr. She was the third of five daughters and grew up in Minnesota, graduated from Teachers' Training and taught school there before moving to California. In 1944 while working at Loomis Flower Shop in Modesto, she met Pelvin Slinden and on January 23, 1945 they were married in Modesto followed by a honeymoon through the Gold Country of Sonora and Columbia. They moved to Pelvin's hometown of Atwater, Minnesota where they worked together raising their four daughters on a small family farm. In 1960 they moved to California to be near her family in Stanislaus/Merced County and they lived in Central California until 1966 when they moved to Bellevue, Washington. In 1971 they returned to Turlock/Modesto where they were active in the Calvary Lutheran Church in Modesto. They later retired to Angels Camp where Pelvin passed away in November, 1991. In 2005, Mrs. Slinden moved to Casa de Modesto in Modesto, California where she made many friends and joined the Red Hat Society. In the Spring of 2012 she became ill and eventually was transferred to the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson where she peacefully passed away as the sun was rising Saturday morning.
Mrs. Slinden is survived by three of her sisters, Dorothy Blumenstein of Turlock, CA, Mildred Badenschier of Austin, MN, and Donna Kinney of Santa Cruz, CA; her four daughters and their spouses, Karen Carlson of Sierra Vista, AZ, Lynae Slinden of Whidbey Island, WA, Marlys and Richard Powers of San Ramon, and Patricia and Michael Denney of Twain Harte, and their families.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pelvin Slinden; her parents, Lee and Norma Orr; her infant son, Arlen Slinden, and her sister Marie (Orr) Gransee.
Following a memorial service at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Heritage Chapel, at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, California, Kathleen will be laid to rest in the Honor Garden next to her beloved husband, Pelvin (Pat).
