Ken was born on December 30, 1946 to parents Francis Stephen O'Day and Marjorie Jareen Keeney O'Day in the state of Massachusetts. He and his family moved states shortly after, setting down their roots in California.
One memory that perfectly captures Ken's essence is when he was searching for a home in Pinole. He chose one that overlooked San Pablo Bay, a decision reflecting both his thoughtful nature and his love for serene beauty. He could spend hours walking the shoreline, absorbing the tranquil rhythm of the waves. It was in those solitary walks that Ken found a faultless echo of his inner life — contemplative, peaceful, and profoundly connected to the world around him.
Ken's achievements were numerous and illuminated by his relentless pursuit of knowledge and service. Graduating with honors from Davis High School and Modesto Junior College were just the beginning. He went on to graduate from the University of California at Berkeley, a Phi Beta Kappa scholar — an accomplishment that made us all proud. His career exemplified his dedication to others: he served in the Stanislaus County Library System before committing forty years to the Contra Costa County Department of Social Services. Ken wasn't just employed; he was dedicated to bettering the lives of those around him, acting as a pillar of support and wisdom for countless individuals and families.
Ken was gentle, kind, quick-witted, and energetic. He turned every challenge into an opportunity. He especially loved his family. He was a cherished brother, a devoted uncle, and a friend to many. May his memory continue to live on through those that loved him.
A graveside service for Kenneth will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at10:00 AM at Lakewood Memorial Park, located at 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson, CA. Kenneth will be laid to rest in Evergreen Garden.
