Lois met her husband, Dale, in Bald Knob, Arkansas. As a fond memory that she often shared, their first date was to the movie theatre, “2 movie tickets, 2 candy bars, and a tank of gas, all for two bits.” Lois was married to Dale C.W. Rudesill on October 18, 1941. Soon after returning home from the service in May of 1946, Dale told Lois “We’re moving to California.” In September that year they caught the train with their daughter, Paulette, from Bald Knob, Arkansas to Modesto, California. When they arrived in California they both went to work for Pacific Grape Cannery, several years later they welcomed their second daughter, Joy, into the world. Dale was hired on with American Transit Mix where his career lasted over 21 years. Lois went on to work as a Sales Clerk for 27 years and retired from Montgomery Wards. After retirement they took multiple trips back to Arkansas to visit family.
Lois was passionate about taking care of her family. She enjoyed going to garage sells on Saturday mornings and trips to Knight’s Ferry with her family.
She is survived by her daughters Paulette Simmons of Empire and Joy Nelson of Modesto, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale C.W. Rudesill, her parents, Elmer and Pearl Altom, three brothers, three sisters, and grandson.
