Maj. George Benjamin Nunez, 73, passed away in Atwater, CA., on Thursday.
He was born in New York City, New York. Maj. Nunez graduated from
Weber State University in Ogden, Utah (Summa Cum Laude) Top of Class
(2,700 graduates) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering.
Maj. Nunez enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 4, 1957 as an
Airmen Basic'' and rose to the rank of Major after being awarded three
Aeronautical Ratings of; Senior Pilot, Senior Navigator and Electronics
Warfare Officer and retired from the USAF on July 1, 1979 after accumulating
over 8,000 flying hours as a crew member or Aircraft Commander.
During his career he was awarded 87 Military Awards to include 2 Silver Stars,
3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Purple Heart and 22 Air Medals for combat
and classified missions. He was also employed by Lockheed Company as a
special assistant and Northrup Group as Project Engineer.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 17th at 10:00 AM at
Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe, Hughson, CA.
Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.,
November 12, 2010.
