July 8, 1929 - May 22, 2023
Mary Ann McBride passed peacefully May 22, 2023 at the age of 93 in Modesto, CA.
Mary Ann (Hannah) was born July 8, 1929 in Denair, California and while she could trace her lineage to the earliest settlers of Jameston, Virginia - lived most of her life in the Westport area of Ceres and then later on the Lost Coast in Inglenook, CA.
Mary Ann graduated from Ceres High School and then dedicated herself to creating a warm, welcoming and loving home. Her true gift was warmth and the way she made everyone around her feel, in this she was without peer. She was, as Emerson wrote, a truly successful person - she appreciated beauty, found the best in others, and left the world a bit better than she found it - those who knew her all breathed easier because of Mary Ann.
Mary Ann leaves a legacy of family, including her husband Don McBride (deceased) and their three sons Jimmy McBride (deceased), Gary McBride (Sherry), Morro Bay CA, Jerry McBride, Hayward CA, and Karen Barindelli, Modesto CA.
Her siblings, Kenneth Hannah (deceased), David Hannah (deceased), George Crisp (deceased), and Ruth Welborn, Ceres CA.
Her grandchildren, Jeff McBride, Bodega Bay CA, Jennifer Shong, Post Falls ID, Carrie McBride, San Jose CA, Dianna Salvatera, Modesto CA, and John Barindelli, Modesto, CA, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
Professionally, Mary Ann was dedicated to the Ceres Unified School District (CUSD) serving for 38 years, beginning in 1957 with the Westport Elementary administrative team and then rising to leadership of the CUSD Business Office, the first woman to do so.
Beyond her family, Mary Ann’s passion was global travel and seeing the world through others’ eyes. Mary Ann visited nearly every continent, though Africa touched her soul - returning several times, the last a safari at the adventurous age of 88.
Mary Ann loved creating beautiful gardens, her dogs, running 5Ks, exploring bookstores, longhorn steers, a good white wine, and taking in strays of any sort. She will be missed by all who knew her. A Graveside Service will be held for family and friends at Lakewood Memorial Park (900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson) on May 31st at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Ann’s memory may be made to Seva Hospice of Modesto.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.LakewoodHughson.com for the McBride family.
