Mary Souza peacefully passed away on November 6, 2019 at the age of 93 in Modesto California. Being first generation Portuguese American, she was born in New Bedford Ma., on April 28, 1926 to immigrant parents Joe and Maria Camara.
In 1947, Mary married Arthur Souza and had three children; two daughters and a son. When the children were young, Mary and Arthur briefly ran a dairy farm in Modesto. After selling the dairy, Mary went on to work at Kmart where she retired after twenty years of service.
Always having been a good cook, master of crochet, collector of all thing’s ‘cow’, and avid jokester, Mary discovered her love for baseball late in life. The proof is in her whimsical San Francisco Giants bobblehead collection.
Mary is survived by her three children, Donna Freitas (Jim), Dan Souza, and Darlene Souza. She also leaves behind two granddaughters, Jennifer Morrison (Scott), Julie Freitas, two great grandchildren Jackson and Mackenzie Morrison (who call Mary, Gigi), her sister-in-law Eleanor Camara, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Arthur, her parents, and her brothers Frank, Joe, and Albert.
