Matt was AWESOME!!! We have so many memories of Matt spending many hours on and off the basketball court with our sons Angelo & Justin at Central Catholic. He knew how to ‘handle’ each son perfectly. He was a great teacher of the game but also he understood how to reach & direct our sons, to where they wanted to preform their best. He was also a great developer of the boys’ character off the court. He had many discussions with our kids on how to be good young men and control and channel their behavior. He was also such a great supporter of our kids’ activities outside of basketball. He even followed our kids’ sports/activities once they graduated from high school. He took the time to stay connected with his basketball boys.
We remember well how we could talk so easily with Matt as basketball parents. When we were frustrated he calmed us down too. Matt was such a cool guy. Over the years we developed a great friendship with Matt. When he worked in Patterson, where we live, he was able to meet up for lunch every once in a while and keep up with our families’ comings an goings.
We admired him! Such a good guy, great dad and husband. We know that our sweet Lord in heaven stood up when Matt entered. You will be missed Matt!

It is never enough time for the good ones, but the good ones know what to do with the time they have. Such a gift to know Matt. The influence he had on so many kids was such a blessing. He was the definition of a loyal friend, a quiet constant source of strength and hope for so many. He was the guy we looked for on the bench because his quiet words were the leadership that kids needed. What a selfless human and what a kind family he had to allow him to share his gifts. We will miss Coach Matt - until we meet again -

I had a working relationship with Matt , I will always remember our Fastenal trip to Denver and his willingness to always go the extra mile helping us out at IC Refrigeration. We see a lot of people come and go in our business , but sometimes you meet someone who leaves a mark and he did just that. I cant wait to see him again some day . It's always a reminder that we must be ready at all times to be with the Lord , take the time to enjoy life , family and most of all help the Lost. Sincerely Kevin Silva

Praying for you, MAQ's family and close friends. You have been in my morning prayers for a while. May Holy Spirit continue to comfort and guide you through this time. MAQ has such a loving, sweet sweet spirit and he will be missed several times during the day. I found his obit on this website while looking for my mother's (Patsy Whitworth) . MAQ fought the good fight, won the race and has heard "Well done, good and faithful servant". Judy Oxford

I went to Sonora Foursquare about 1995/96 so I haven’t seen the Quillen family since but I do remember Matthew as a lil 10-13 year old running around the church just as cute as a button.
He was a lil Pastor in the making
My condolences to you and your family
May The Lord wrap you with His presence.
I am praying for you all
