Mildred was born to Charles T. and Myrtle Holton Dunegan in Cherokee County, Oklahoma in 1925. Her family moved to California in 1936. She eventually settled and remained in Waterford for most of the remainder of her life. She married Ted Dennis in 1942. They lived on their farm just outside of Waterford with their daughter Sharon for many years before moving into town in 1977. Millie was employed by the U. S. Postal Service in Waterford for 20 years before retiring in 1985.
To know Millie was to love her. She was sweet, cheerful, giving, kind, and had a wry sense of humor. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years at Community Baptist Church, and also volunteered for years at Moon School in Waterford as a community reader volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Dennis, and her beloved daughter, Sharon Viss. Even through the difficult days that followed the death of her daughter, her faith in the Lord sustained her, allowing her to take comfort in the knowledge that she would someday meet Sharon in heaven. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who thought the world of her and will miss her greatly. The names of her nieces and nephews are: Harry Holton, Patricia Smith, Gloria Valentine, Rosemary Drake, Beverly Thompson, Jean Beck, Jonnie Haney, Bud Chapman, Bill Chapman, George Dennis, Diane Dennis, and Kathy Dennis.
Visitation will be at Lakewood Memorial Park on Friday, February 1st from 4-8 PM. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2nd at 11:00 AM at Community Baptist Church, 328 D St., Waterford. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Millie requested that contributions may be made to Community Baptist Church, listed above, or First Southern Baptist Church, 116 E Street, Waterford, CA 95386.
