Mildred Francis Garcia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, slipped away peacefully early Friday morning at home. She was born in Los Angles, CA in 1919 to Daniel and Mary Gallego. The eldest of six children, she helped raise her younger siblings Danny, Richard, George, Gloria, and Juliet.
In may of 1937, she married the love of her life, Severino Ralph Garcia. They were happily married for 75 years when he preceded her in death in 2012 at the age of 96. Their life was a truly wonderful love story. Together, they raised five children, Barbara Guerrero, Irene Berbena, Ralph Garcia Jr., Racheal Ventimiglia, and Bill Garcia. Her sixteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren brought her the most joy out of life. Raising and caring for her entire family was what she lived to do the most. Everyone will remember her amazing meals and fun conversations in her always spotless kitchen.
In her spare time, through the years she took several road trips to Las Vegas with her husband. More recently, she enjoyed day trips to Jackson to play the slot machines. Mildred loved to check on her beautifully landscaped yard, full of plants and flowers. For years, she was a familiar sight in the neighborhood, tending to her garden in her high heels, pearls, and orange lipstick. A love of music, she also liked to listen to favroites such as Billy Vaughn and Engelbert Humperdinck.
Since the passing of her husband in 2012, Mildred was cared for at home by a few family members. Hard to say who benefitted t he most, us or her, as it was such a joy to be in her presence, always. She will be missed dearly, but held in our hearts forever.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice, especially Sue, Toni, Jan, and Amy for their genuine care for Mildred this past year. She looked forward to their visits and counted them as friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Community Hospice.
