

Thelma Naomi Blaylock Cunningham went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the age of 94 years 10 months due to complications from a recent stroke. At the time of her death, she was living at the Bel Air Lodge Convalescent Hospital in Turlock, California. Born Thelma Naomi Blaylock on April 24, 1920 in Stigler, Oklahoma to parents Hubert and Alma Blaylock. She was the middle child with older sister Nathalie, and younger brother Clinton. The family moved from Oklahoma in the mid 1930's because of the Dust Bowl, working their way across the U.S. to Arizona, where she met her husband Robert. They were married on September 3, 1938 in Modesto, CA. They moved to Modesto, CA where they had two sons, Lowell and Glenn. She worked at the Tri Valley Cannery, then began making pies for a local restaurant. She was employed at the Bible Book Store on J Street, in Modesto until she retired in 1975. Naomi was actively involved with the Free Will Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, bible studies, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was very active with the youth of the church, always donating time and money to help them attend functions. She also acted as chauffer to those in need of a way to get to church. Her charities included: the Modesto Gospel Mission and missionary foundations for spreading the gospel. Her hobbies included sewing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Naomi is survived by her two sons, Lowell Cunningham and Glenn Cunningham (Sandi), both of Modesto, CA; three granddaughters, Vickie Jackson (Henry) of Hughson, CA, Shelbie Cunningham of Springfield, TN, and Laurie Isayo (Ninous) of Turlock, CA. Naomi has six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert, grandson Michael Cunningham, siblings and parents.The family would like to thank Bel Air Lodge Convalescent Hospital for the excellent care Naomi received while residing there. Bristol Hospice provided exceptional care in her final days.
Funeral services and interment will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Avenue, Hughson, CA. Viewing on Wednesday, Feb. 11th from 4-8:00 pm. Chapel service Thursday, Feb. 12th at 1:00 pm in the Heritage Chapel.
