Owetdia Dorraine Dupree, a woman truly beautiful inside and out, was born on September 28, 1958, in Richmond, California, to Otha and Martha Watson. She was a beloved baby sister to her siblings, Deloris and Semirl. Owetdia accepted the Lord at a young age and involved herself in service at North Richmond Missionary Baptist Church. Owetdia’s years in the West Contra Costa Unified School District culminated with graduation at De Anza High School. Her higher educational journey led her to San Jose State University, where she met the love of her life, Charles Ray Dupree. Their hearts intertwined, and they married, moving to San Jose to begin their life together.
With a hard-working spirit, take charge mentality and remarkable intelligence, Owetdia embarked on a distinguished 42-year career with the VA Medical Center. She began at the VA Medical Center, Palo Alto, then transferred to Menlo Park, ultimately retiring as a Chief Administrator at the VA Medical Center, San Francisco.
The Dupree family, embracing their new chapter, moved to Ceres, California, and in October 1992, they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Kaylyn Dupree, who was the light of Owetdia's life. In April 2004, just months after moving into their dream home in Hughson, California, Charles suffered a heart attack and passed away. Through this profound loss, Owetdia's determined spirit, coupled with her unwavering faith, carried her forward.
Owetdia was known for her sophisticated demeanor and glamorous fashion style, her vibrant personality making her truly over the top in the best possible way. She possessed a generous heart, always willing to help anyone, and her funny sly wit brought joy to all who knew her. She found spiritual fellowship as a member of Victory in Praise, Modesto and cherished her social time with the Red Hatters and the Chantilly Girls.
The Lord closed her eyes and called her home on July 17th 2025.. Owetdia leaves to mourn her devoted mother, Martha; her cherished daughter, Kaylyn; her beloved siblings, Deloris and Semirl; her precious granddaughter; Zaya, her doting nephews; Charles (Larrika) and Shyheem; along with great nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends who were touched by her extraordinary presence. Her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering kindness will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
