Although I did not know Paul personally, he answered several calls in our neighborhood. As a former officer, my heart goes out to the family.

I don't even know how to start this message, because Paul's story has just touched my life in a way I will never be able to explain. Just realizing life is extremely precious and we never know when our last day on this Earth will be. I work with Paul's brother Thomas. When I heard about his brother being in this horrible accident I was shocked and felt sick to my stomach for his family. I truly wanted to go to his funeral to show my support for Thomas and his whole family, but I couldn't due to work. My heart goes out to Shannon and their precious daughter Ava. I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. Paul was only 4 months older than my husband and I can't imagine my life without him. I pray for you that you find courage, strength, and the will to get up every morning and live life to the fullest for yourself, Ava, and Paul! I know Paul is watching over all of you guys and will be your guardian angel. Ava will always be a part of Paul and I know in some way that will help you get through the hard times.
Thomas I just want you to know that I'm praying for you and if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here for you. God Bless the Katuszonek family and you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. To all of the employees at Oakdale Police Dept., you are in my thoughts and prayers as well, because losing a friend/ co-worker is just like losing a family member. Even though I never met or knew Paul, I know from reading all of your messages that he was a good person with a heart of Gold and loved life. His love, positive spirit, and legacy will live on forever!

My prayers are with Shannon and Ava in this trying time. My God bless you and watch over you until you are reunited with your loved one.

To his extended family, the men and women of the Oakdale Police Department, may the memories of Paul's humor keep you warm on those cold midnight shifts. Stay safe and take comfort in knowing Paul has been called to God's law enforcement team now.

May you continue to serve with honor, courage and sacrifice.

Chris, Roman, and Tommy, Shannon & Ava,
Words cannot express how sorry I am to hear of Paul's death. I have such fond memories of your family with our kids growing up together. I recall running into Paul several times as a young adult and he was so gracious and inquisitive....always asking how everyone was. I pray that you have a peace during this most difficult time. The world has truly lost a wonderful human being. Shannon....your pain is immense....may you be enveloped in the love of those who are in your life to help you get through this most difficult time.

We've met Paul when our son, Nathan Ash married our daughter in law, Heather Katuszonek who is Paul's cousin. We just love the way Paul greeted us and spoke to us.....he was very friendly, the life of the party with his jokes and smile and enjoyed watching him dance at the wedding reception. We also enjoyed playing card games with Paul & Shannon & the other Katuszonek family members when we visited California. Paul will be really missed. Our deepest sympathy to Shannon & Ava and to all the family & friends & co-workers of Paul. Love & Prayers to all! Al & Gloria Ash, Marion, Kansas

I am so sorry for the loss of your son. I never met him, but felt the love and pride you have for him when you talked about him here in the office. As a parent, my heart aches for you and the family. I hope you can find peace with the help of your beautiful granddaughter, she is a part of him.
