Sept. 20, 1933 - Sept. 25, 2021
On September 25, our beloved Dad passed away with his loving family by his side.
Reza Vossoughi grew up in a small desert town in Iran. He was the oldest of the Vossoughi children and grew up with six siblings. At the insistence of his father, he came to the United States in 1957 to attend Texas Technological College. He was 23 years old and spoke no English. He told us that he could not even order a glass of water. Through sheer determination & hard work he excelled in his major, engineering.
Reza spent a few years in school in Texas and six months in England before finishing his degree at the University of Florida. It was there that he met the love of his life, Sharron Bronson. They were married in 1962 and both graduated from U of F. In 1964 they welcomed a daughter, Susan Cyma.
It was 1966 when the young family traveled across the country by VW bug with a Uhaul trailer hitched to the back. They moved to Morro Bay where Reza did graduate work at Cal Poly, and Sherry taught school. A year later, Reza was hired by PG&E for their Stockton office and he worked for the company until he retired (the first time).
In 1969 a boy was welcomed, Robert Ali. This complete family moved to Modesto the same year and this is where they settled. Reza excelled in his field of engineering receiving many awards and proving himself invaluable to local industry. He was athletic, playing tennis every week for the biggest part of his adult life. He loved soccer and coached his son’s teams, volunteered as a referee and played on adult teams. Soccer is where so many lifelong friendships were made.
Reza retired from PG&E in 1994 and stayed retired for about a week before starting a consulting business. He worked into his 80’s with local industry. In 1980 Reza and Sherry, with their best friends Ken & Cheryl Smith, started a journey to travel the world. The went to 66 different countries over the years, visiting some of the same countries many times. They met so many friends along the way who joined their travels, making amazing memories.
Reza leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He had a smile that would light up a room and never met a stranger. He was welcoming and generous, known as “ the host of hosts.” He will be with us always. Sherry Vossoughi, son Robert Vossoughi (Socorro), daughter Susan Shetron (Grant), grandchildren Allie, Darius, Aylin Vossoughi, Madison & Riley McGrath, Chandler, Collin, Madison Shetron.
A graveside service for Reza Vossoughi will be held Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Lakewood Memorial Park, in the Restland Garden, 900 Santa Fe Avenue, Hughson, California.
