Hughson Pioneer, Robert Edgar Raynor, passed peacefully from his earthly home on October 6, 2011 surrounded by his family. Let us salute a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grampa and great grampa, uncle, companion, and friend. Robert lived a long life full of hard work, patriotism, and enjoying his family. Robert was born September 22, 1918 to parents Edgar and Aseneth Raynor in Modesto, CA. After five years serving his country in WWII, he established a farm in Hughson where he spent his life. There, he raised his family amid peaches, walnuts, and almonds instilling in them strong values and life's lessons. Surviving Robert are his children, Douglas F. Raynor (Leslie) of Sebastopol, CA; Dianne M Raynor (Stephanie) of Santa Maria, CA; and Gary R. Raynor (Debbie) Hughson, CA; brother Quentin Raynor, Hughson, CA; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his companion Ms. Dorothy Crismon of Modesto.
Passing before him were his parents; wife, Eloise Raynor, nee Erickson; his sister Ruth Stockley, nee Raynor; and companion Margaret Tashjian. Robert enjoyed traveling, a good political debate, and ballroom dancing. His knowledge of farming was unsurpassed as he worked well into his eighties as a cannery representative with local farmers.
He and his brother were regulars at Hamilton's Café in Hughson. There, they met for coffee or lunch as they had since the fifties discussing life, farming, and the politics of the day. His children praise his wisdom, love, integrity and character and valued his advice and counsel.
Donations can be made in Robert's name to the Community Hospice, Inc. at 209-578-6300.
