Sonja Yvonne Holton

Sonja Yvonne Holton, age 83, of Modesto passed away on August 4, 2021 surrounded by her family after a long illness. We are saddened to lose her but relieved that her suffering from Alzheimer’s is over.

Sonja was born in Modesto, CA on July 2, 1938. She grew up in Stanislaus County, Oklahoma and Texas before settling in Stanislaus County in 1956. On January 30, 1956 she married the love of her life, Harry Holton. They were married 63 years until his passing in 2019.

Sonja was a homemaker, though she did manage the Montgomery Wards coffee shop for a few years. From 1974-1982 she and Harry owned the A&W in Patterson, which she managed, as well. She was a wonderful cook and baker and excellent seamstress.

Sonja is survived by her four children; Julie (Mark) Jordan, Chris, Marcia (Mike) Duso and Lesley. She has eight grandchildren; Carly Bullard, Jared Jordan, April Holton, Jenna Jordan, Erin Duso, Shane Holton, Bradley Duso and Jeremy Duso. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Nettie McGee, her brother Kenneth McGee and a sister, Norma McGee.

A Celebration of Life for Sonja will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 11 am at The Fruit Yard, 7948 Yosemite Blvd, Modesto, CA. Burial will be private at Lakewood Memorial Park.
