Terrell Scearce passed away of natural causes on Monday, September 1, 2014 in Modesto, CA at the age of 89. Terrell had lived in Modesto for over 50 years.
Born in Shreveport, LA on November 24, 1924, to Estin A. Scearce and Martha V. Phink. He was named Jesse Terrell Scearce after his mother's father. To avoid family confusion, he went by "Terrell."
He married Edwina Lee Griffiths in El Paso, TX, December 23, 1948. They had three children: Shari Sue, Estin Griffiths, and Terry Lee.
Terrell worked during WW II for the railroad, and completed his education, graduating from University of Texas at El Paso in 1949. Upon graduation he worked for the YMCA as manager in many different cities, where he expressed his love of helping youth through sports. Ultimately, he became a sales representative for Overholtzer Church Furniture Company in Modesto. Today many churches, chapels and schools still use the church furnishings he introduced to them. Retired for many years, Terrell enjoyed his family, traveling, and socializing with his friends.
Terrell is survived by his daughters, Shari Kee (David)of Meadow Vista, CA, and Terry Clark (Bob) of Mountain Ranch, CA; six grandchildren, Josh, Jordan Jerred, Jenae, Jesse, and Katie and seven great grand children, Elijah, Ashlyn, Marcos, Giovani, Brenner, Lacey and Diego. He is also survived by long time friend, Lanita Ward. Terrell was preceded in death by his wife Edwina, and his son, Estin.
Thanks must be acknowledged to the loving care and attendance of his church, pastor and friends, as well as Optimal Hospice. And a special thanks of love and appreciation to Lanita Ward and all her family. Terrell so appreciated their time together.
Terrell was a quiet man, never seeking the limelight, but always a light of integrity, and laughter.
Terrell will be laid to rest in a private Commitment Service. On Saturday, September 13, 2014 an 11:00AM, a Memorial Service will be held at Lakewood Funeral Homein the Heritage Chapel, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson, CA. A fellowship luncheon will follow at 1:00PM at Big Valley Grace Community Church in Modesto in the Fireside Room , 4040 Tully Road, Modesto, CA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Big Valley Christian School Athletics in memory of Terrell Scearce.
