Thomas Ray Reed

Tom grew up in Riverbank, California. From 1960 to 1964, he attended Oakdale High School. He was an active participant in the tumbling team, a trumpet player for the marching band, and a star track and field athlete who held the pole-vaulting record for 45 years from 1964 to 2009.

In 1966, Tom was drafted into the Marines. He served in active duty from 1966 to 1969, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6. For his accomplishments in the Marines, Tom received the honor of Meritorious Mass. He served a total of 6 years in the reserves upon being released from active duty.

After leaving the Marines, Tom pursued a career in computer programming and worked for a number of major computer companies from 1969 to 1986. While working in computer programming, Tom returned to college to earn the skills needed to become a Certified Public Accountant. He graduated from Portland University in 1974 with a degree in Business Administration. Tom excelled as a self-employed CPA for 40 years and received numerous awards across his years of service.

Thomas was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church and enjoyed scuba diving, water skiing, and the snow. He was someone who valued working with his hands to build home construction projects.

Thomas is survived by his cherished wife, Patricia Leftwich Reed (née Wangelin), and his son, Michael Christopher Reed of Salida, California. He is also survived by his sister, Judith Mae Richmond of Fallon, Nevada. Preceding Thomas in passing are his father and mother, Starlin and Nina Beatrice Reed, as well as his sister, Starlene Taylor.

Tom will be always remembered fondly and loved deeply, as he was in life, by all whose lives he touched.

A Committal Service will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA 95326, US, on October 2, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
