March 31, 1945 – May 20, 2025
William “Bill” Blanchard Jr. was born on March 31, 1945, in Los Angeles, California, to William and Laucera Blanchard. The eldest of five siblings, Bill’s early years were marked by a spirit of adventure and a love for the outdoors—traits that would remain with him throughout his life.
A 1963 graduate of Thomas Downey High School, Bill went on to build a respected 35-year career as a Data Processing Supervisor at Modesto Irrigation District, retiring in 2007. His dedication and work ethic left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
Outside of work, Bill found joy in nature and hands-on creativity. He had a passion for lapidary work, carefully crafting and polishing stones. As a devoted member of the Modesto Bonsai Club, he nurtured his collection of bonsai trees with patience and artistry. Bill was also an avid cyclist, embracing the outdoors with energy and enthusiasm well into his later years.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of four years, Dorothy Olivera of Modesto; his daughters, Anissa Horton of Modesto, and Natasha (Jim) Sifford of Idaho. He leaves behind grandchildren Breanna (Jason) of Mississippi, Carissa (Theo) of Maryland, Taylor (Brian) of Modesto, and Peter of Modesto; as well as great-grandchildren Maddox, Colton, Trevor, Josiah, and Abel. Bill is also survived by his sister, Michelle Seltman, and his brother, Terry Blanchard.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca “Becky” Blanchard; his parents, William Blanchard and Laucera Blanchard; his brother, Richard Blanchard; his sister, Nyoka Wilson; and his beloved Grandma T.
