Albert Fontes

Albert Fontes, 91, born January 11, 1922, passed away March 28, 2013. He was born in Camarillo, CA where he resided for over 80 years, until moving to Nevada and then settling in Texas in 2007. He served in WWII October 1942 through October 1945, as a member of the US Army, 121st Engineer Battalion of the 29th Infantry Division, part of the first assault wave off Omaha Beach in the D-Day invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Albert was parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He was skilled in various types of mechanical work, enjoyed taking things apart and creating new functional objects. His family has fond memories of the hours he spent designing and making “something that works.” Albert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene Fayak Fontes; children; Lawrence Fontes, James Fontes (wife, Susan), Theresa Fontes Chalmers (husband, Russ), Mary Fontes Vargas (husband, Larry), Ann Fontes, Bernadette Fontes Hagan (husband, Chris); 14 Grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren. The family sends a special thanks to the loving care of daughter, Mary Fontes Vargas while he resided in Nevada and to daughters Ann Fontes and Bernadette Fontes Hagan while he lived his remaining years in Texas.
