Alice Tuttle, 79, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 after a three year struggle with lung cancer. Born in Sullivan City, Texas on April 23rd, 1938 to Paul and Gladys Jones, she began working the local telephone switchboard at age 11, her mother’s only relief in that charge. Alice attended Mission High School where she was a standout on the volleyball and basketball teams. Alice is survived by Olon Tuttle, her husband of 60 years. Olon, working for his father at the time, was told he couldn’t continue seeing Alice and keep his job, he chose wisely. They married in Artesia, New Mexico on September 28th, 1957. They raised their three children in Houma, Louisiana. Alice continued her sporty pursuits there, both in a bowling league and as an accomplished softball coach of a ragtag group of girls known as the “Powder Puffs.” They returned to the Houston area in the early 1980’s where, apart from a couple of years in Alaska, they have made a home for the last 35 years.
Alice also leaves behind her two sons, Matthew and Michael; her sister Bobbie Smith; her grandchildren, Garrett, Stephen, Justin, Jamie, Megan, Allison, Emily, Ashley, and Dillon; as well as 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in rest by her daughter, Mandy Lewis.
