Now begins the hard work of going on with life without Ana’s light. For the last 10 years, she has been a much loved extra daughter to me. I will miss her so much—the photos and texts of her and Eva,  a spontaneous lunch date,  her thoughtfulness, just her presence in our lives. I look forward to the time when we can see her beautiful smile again.

In memory of my sweet friend Ana.
Eight years ago we were so lucky to meet Ana and her beautiful family when they moved in nextdoor. Soon, we weren’t just neighbors, but best friends and family. I will always remember the simple moments with her like meeting at the mailbox and catching up on the past week and waving or quick chitchats as we were coming and going. There were many times on our back porch when we vented, cried and laughed about the troubles as well as the good times in our lives. I will also remember the times with our families.  We enjoyed game nights, vacations to the beach, birthday parties, and many holidays with our friends and families. The memory that I will cherish the most was the last time that we were able to spend with her at the Astros game 2 weeks ago.  I am so glad we were able to go and spend time with her and Tariq. I know she enjoyed it, even though the Astros lost. Watching her fight cancer with such courage and dignity was both heartbreaking, but also so inspiring.
She faced it all with a quiet strength that taught me what true bravery looks like. It's hard to imagine my days without my dear friend Ana. She wasn't just my neighbor, she was one of my closest friends and part of my daily life and my heart. I  will miss her every day.  Her smile, her voice, her presence next door.
I'm so grateful for the time we shared, for the laughs we had together, and for all the great memories. I will hold onto these moments forever. The world feels a little dimmer without her, but I know her light still shines in everyone who loved her.
Rest peacefully, my dear friend. I love you. ❤️

When I first moved to Houston and started work, Ana was the first friend I made. I didn’t know anyone and felt a little out of place, but she welcomed me right away. She encouraged and helped me go back to collage after years of being out of school. She was the kind of friend who would show up, lend a hand, or just listen. I will always be grateful for her friendship and the impact she made on my life.
