Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 21723 Aldine Westfield Rd. Humble TX. A visitation will take place on Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston on Monday, August 22, 2022 at 10:45 a.m.
André Raphael Gray was born on August 14th, 1963, to Edward Tasby (deceased) and Barbara Gray in Houston ,TX. He was the second oldest of four siblings. His brother and sisters are Quincy Gray, Tamika Tasby and Tenyse Tasby. André is a proud father of Deanté Gray and Trévon Gray.
On March 15th 2017 André married Simone Gomes.
While attending high school at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, he became an All-State athlete in basketball, football and track and field. André went on to play four years of football for the University of Texas Arlington while obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After college, André played professional football in the NFL for the Washington Redskins, and CFL for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He then served his country from November of 1986 to March of 1991 as a member of the US Army. André returned to Strake Jesuit where he coached multiple sports from 1992 to 2002. André was also a respected Police Officer (1997- 2011), and an accomplished Insurance Agent (2010 – 2015) before deciding to be a teacher and mentor in 2015. He has taught elementary and middle school in Sheldon, Humble and Galena Park Independent School Districts. André was teaching at Galena Park Middle School prior to his untimely passing.
In his 58 years, André has encountered and touched many lives. Whether it was his joyous and fun-loving spirit that could brighten even the darkest of times, or his unyielding desire to live life to its absolute fullest, André truly was a blessing to us all. André Raphael Gray will be missed and forever loved.
