Billy Ray Smith

On March 25, 1942, a son was born, Billy Ray Smith in Honey Island, Texas. Billy was the first son of Rayfield and Elizabeth Smith. Billy had two siblings, Charles and Don Smith. Billy's father, mother, and both siblings, all preceded him in death.

Billy Ray began working on the family farm in the 7th grade in Navasota, Texas and there he came very skillful with his hands. He was a self taught electrician and mechanic.

In Navasota Billy Ray Smith met and married Alberta Jones on November 1, 1961. Together they moved to Houston, Texas and had two children, Shakneaqui O'Brien Smith and Brian Keith Smith. Billy's wife and daughter preceded him.

Upon arriving to Houston, Texas Billy Ray Smith started his own business as a tire repairman and mechanic. Eventually he also started working at Dennis Tools as a mechanic before his retirement.

Bro. Smith has served faithfully as an Usher at New Community Baptist Church later to become Fellowship of Enlightenment every since he's been for over 35 years. He faithfully served as Treasurer of the Usher Board and later served as Vice President of Ushr Board II for many years. With his humble spirit, Brother Smith willingly volunteered to drive the church van during outings and served those that were sick and shut in until his eyesight began to decline. He will truly be missed by all of the Usher Board, as well as the entire, Fellowship of Enlightenment Family.

Billy went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memories his son Brian Smith; granddaughter Markeita Pruitt (Melvin); grandsons Roderick Moye and (Natca), Casimir Johnson, great-grandchildren Ayrianna Moye, Syniah Moye, De'Juan Moye, and Naomi Moye.

A celebration of life service for Billy will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Fellowship of Enlightenment, 9005 Wayside, Houston, TX 77028.
