She was the youngest child of Ellis Ray McCracken and Ruth McCracken. The greatest joy of her life was her son Jeffrey E. McCord, who she lost in 1999 at the age of 28 and never completely recovered from that tragedy but is reunited with him now and will be buried beside him. Unfortunately, she did not have her own grandchildren but she treated a few as her own and they considered her their Grandmother, Greyson and Claire Downs, and Ryan and Tyler Miller.
She graduated from Southern Seminary and Our Lady of the Lake University-San Antonio later in life while still working at Kingwood Personnel. She was one of the original homeowners in Kingwood, TX around 1975 and founded Kingwood Personnel shortly after. Kingwood Personnel was a successful employment agency for 35 years before she retired, and she was a prominent business owner in the community and a longtime Kingwood resident.
As owner and Chief Executive Officer of Kingwood Personnel, she was a strong local leader in helping women establish careers in business. Carol could not go anywhere in Kingwood without seeing someone she knew that she helped find employment. She was a staple in the Kingwood community for several years and was well respected. Carol was one of a kind and always the life of the party and never met a stranger. She loved musicals, art, history, reading, good food, and her true passion was traveling. She loved being a comedian and always had her friends laughing and was very generous. She also supported many local charities that helped women and children build productive work lives, including serving on the Board of Family Time Crisis and Counseling Center, a non-profit organization that provides support and resources to families in need, especially those affected by domestic violence. She was honored for her work with women and named Woman of the Year in Business by Family Time. She was also named Business of the Year by Small Business Development Center at Lone Star College-Kingwood, an active member of the Lake Houston Area and Greenspoint Chamber of Commerce, and the Women’s Shelter.
After retirement, Carol moved to Galveston, TX for 5 years to be by the beach which she loved so much, and she would have visitors often to enjoy it with her. When she moved back to Kingwood a few years ago, she was a member of the Lake Houston Ladies Club and Hi Neighbor and enjoyed playing Mahjong and Buncos regularly.
She is survived by her sister Brenda Keegan of Boston, MA and brother Thomas McCracken of Dallas, TX. She was a great favorite of her niece and nephews Matthew McCracken, Tom McCracken, James Keegan and Jill Levine who remember her hearty laugh and many adventures with them including midnight shopping excursions to Target on Thanksgiving night.
The world will not be as bright with Carol not in it, but all who loved her will treasure the memories we shared together. She will be deeply missed by her close friends Dorene, Johnette, Marion, Holly, Annette, Hayley, Linda, Kathy and Mary and many other close friends.
Feel free to wear colorful/bright, floral clothing in honor of Carol.
