

Abel was born in Beeville, Texas on February 25, 1928. He joined the Army Air Corp after high school and proudly served during the Berlin Airlift in 1948. He was hired by Pan American World Airways "Pan AM" after his military service and worked at the Brownsville airport for several years. He met Bennie in Monterrey, Mexico in 1957. They were married in Brownsville on August 2, 1959. Pan AM transferred Abel to San Francisco and then to Miami. They settled in Hialeah, Florida where they raised their children. Another transfer moved the family to Humble, Texas in 1977, where they lived happily for over 40 years, Abels life was filled with love and happiness. He loved traveling, family events, camping, fishing and spending time at the lake. He was an avid aviation enthusiast and for a short time even owned an airplane. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage, taking things apart to make a fix and then reassembling.
Abel is preceded in death by his wife Bennie; his parents Antonio and Clemencia Salazar; brother Antonio.
He is survived by his children, Robert (Cristina) Salazar, David (Diane) Salazar and Sylvia New; grandchildren, Daniel Salazar and Steven, Ryan, Alisha and Siera Salazar and David Jr. and Alex New; great grandchildren Sage and River Abel New; siblings Alfredo Salazar, Andrea Gonzales and Alicia Padden; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.

A celebration of life will occur Friday, January 24, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338. A committal service will occur Friday, January 24, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, 21723 Aldine Westfield Rd, Humble, TX 77338. A catered reception will occur Friday, January 24, 2025 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
