David Curtis King

David Curtis King, 73, of Willis, Texas, passed away on August 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 28, 1953, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Aaron King and Jimmie Lappin, David lived a life defined by creativity, adventure, and an extraordinary ability to connect with others.

David married Deedra Chatelain on March 8, 2013, in New Orleans, Louisiana. They spent their years together traveling, cycling, sharing meaningful experiences, and supporting one another.

For more than 25 years, David served as Vice President of Operations at Rigid Global Building Systems. He was deeply dedicated to his work and was known as a mentor, leader, and friend. His colleagues were a second family to him, and his influence extended far beyond his role. He was admired for his work ethic, and his genuine care for the people around him.

An avid cyclist, David was a longtime member of the NWCC cycling club and served as its president for three years. He embraced every aspect of the sport—road cycling, mountain biking, and even riding High Wheel bicycles, which made him a familiar and beloved presence in local parades. He once completed a 100-mile ride on his High Wheel, a testament to his determination and sense of fun. He encouraged countless others to ride and often rallied his entire family to join him on group rides.

David’s talents were wide-ranging. He was an artist, a writer, a builder, and a designer who could bring any idea to life. He traveled extensively and lived in different countries, collecting experiences and friendships along the way. He had a remarkable gift for remembering people—their names, birthdays, and milestones—and he made a point to reach out, stay connected, and let others know they mattered.

Above all, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Deedra King of Willis, Texas; his children Melanie Higgins (Johnpaul); Jacqueline King-Papadopoulos; Walee Smith (Willy Lee); Kosan Artthaisong (Tara); Andrew King; and Hayley Chatelain (Liam Wetherbee). David leaves behind six adored grandchildren: Riven, Alexander, Evangeline Kay, Stephen, Kayden, and Kayla.

He is also survived by his brothers Mike King; Tim King (Kawita); Curtis King; and his sisters Peggy Flynn, Vickie Powell-Scott, and Cynthia Davison (Bill).

He was preceded in death by his mothers, Jimmie, who gave him life, and Mary Kay Roy, who raised him as her own; his father, Aaron King; and his brother Gary King.

His legacy endures in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched.
