Don Martin lived in Maud Oklahoma for seven years in 1928 and in 1937 moved
to Ada, Oklahoma when Don was 8 years old and in the 4th grade at Washington
Elementary, School. He attended Ada Junior High, and then went to Ada High
School. In the 12th grade he transferred to Horace Mann High School and
graduated in Ada, Oklahoma. Don joined the National Guard while he was in
high school. Don enrolled in East Central State College for 3 years. While Don
was in the National Guard he attended Artillery and Radar School. He started
active duty and was deployed to Korea from Japan, September 1, 1950. Don was
in the 45TH Division Artillery, and was Sargent First Class. He served in active
duty in the Army for 1 year and 3 months, for Foreign Service in Korean War.
Don was honorably discharged from United States Army July 15, 1952 and total
time served including National Guard was 5 years, 9 month, and 21 days.
Don moved his family from Ada, Oklahoma to Sweeney, Texas in 1953, and was
employed by Phillips Petroleum and Bethlehem Supply for two years. In 1955,
Don went to work at OCT on Airline Drive, as a drafter for Oil Wellheads.
Around 1960, OCT, (Oil Center Tool Company), changed it's name to FMC, and
moved to a new plant on Greens Road. Don Martin made a career working for
FMC for 33 1/2 years as a Designer Wellhead Engineer and retired, April 1, 1989.
He really enjoyed watching airplanes in the sky and flew remote control planes,
that he built. Square Dancing was a hobby that he enjoyed very much. Don
became a Square Dance caller, and loved teaching new people to dance.
Hunting and fishing were his passions and he would be there all the time if he
could. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending times with the kids and
grandkids with all their activities like drill team, baseball, football games, band
performances cheerleading, hockey, soccer, and T ball. Don was a wonderful
Husband, Father, and Grandfather, too. Don loved all of his family and
especially the grandchildren. He will be missed by many friends and family.
Don had a lot of buddies, square dance friends, hunting and fishing cohorts, and
co-workers that he loved and enjoyed.
Don is a member of St. James The Apostle Catholic Church on Aldine Westfield
Don and Norma Martin were married in Houston, Texas, May 28, 1977.
He leaves daughter, Judith Ann Martin and Wes Barron who reside in
Pittsburgh, PA.
He has two sons, Kenneth Alan Weade and Trenda of Houston, Texas and
Michael Dwayne Weade and Shari of Spring, Texas
There are 3 grandchildren that Paw-Paw loved them all so very much.
