Elaine “Elly” Farley Brokaw of Spring, Texas went peacefully to be with the Lord on the 2nd of July 2012. Born November 15, 1942 in Ogdensburg, New York to Donald Farley and Lucille Gagnon Farley, Elly blessed us for 69 years with her love, laughter, compassion and unflinching zest for life.
Elly was many things to many people - a loving wife to Herbert, who preceded her in death, mother to Donald Farley and Colin Brokaw, mother-in-law to Courtney Brokaw, grandmother to Bonnie Farley and lifelong friend to many she considered to be family.
She loved making her community better; ensuring its vibrancy was a passion in her life. She served as a dedicated employee and then volunteer for more than 25 years to the Birnam Wood III, IV and V Homeowner’s Association in Spring, Texas. As the organization’s first security director, she established a special and longstanding relationship with the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, whose deputies to this day keep the community safe. She also spent countless hours helping with administrative responsibilities in the HOA offices.
Those with whom she worked and volunteered became part of an extended family who were always welcome guests in her home. Every year she invited the deputies to join her family at holiday dinners when they were unable to be home with their own.
A service celebrating Elly's life will be held Monday, July 9, 2012 at 3:30 pm at Calvary Hill Funeral Home on 21723 Aldine Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338. A reception will follow.
In addition to traditional floral remembrances, gifts may be made in her memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 8111 North Stadium Drive, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77054.
