Felipe “Phil” Alvarez, 69, of Wilmer, AL, departed us to reunite with his mother Antonia Fabela and brother, Richard Alvarez, at 3:15 p.m. on October 23, 2021, in Spring, TX, surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer.
Felipe was born on July 21, 1952, in Dalton, NE, and experienced life in several places including California and Texas, but always called Wisconsin home.
Phil is survived by his partner Margaret Harrison, daughters, Adrianne Alvarez-Smith, Yolanda “Lala” Alvarez, grandsons, Breckin and Taven Smith, siblings, Mary Lou (Mike) Ortiz, Efren Alvarez, Ruby Alvarez, Raul Alvarez, Pete (Terry) Tamez, several other family members, and his “fierce attack yorkie” and faithful side-kick Sasha.
Phil proudly spent most of his life climbing phone poles, jumping into manholes, laying and splicing cable and fiber, and eventually retiring with Southwestern Bell/AT&T after 42 years. He worked with his hands and loved fixing, repairing, building (and though he would never admit it, occasionally destroying) whatever gadget, electronic, yard, chevy truck, or home project he took on. He was a master of sarcasm, quick wit, and “inappropriate” humor, which will be deeply missed. In between projects, you would find him listening to or creating music with his piano or guitars, enjoying football (always rooting for his Raiders), at a pawn shop looking for his next great find, or watching his favorite movies and shows – always relishing a quick trip back to “the good old days.”
Dad had great strength and willpower and never backed down from a fight, including against his cancer. He is no doubt now enjoying an endless supply of beer, bologna sandwiches, fritos with bean dip, fries, cake, rocky road ice cream, and of course sharing it all with his pets (and any other animal) that comes along. We will all miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.CalvaryHillFuneralHome.com for the Alvarez family.
