

George Franklin Ford, Jr., age 71, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014. He was born on November 30, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of George and Hazel Ford. He attended East Tech High School, upon leaving he joined the United States Army, where he served as a career soldier for 20 years from February 17, 1960 – December 31, 1980. While still serving his country, George earned his Bachelor of Applied Science from New York University. His state side career included working within the New Jersey State Casino Control Commission as a Gaming Inspector and in Texas with Foley’s and Montgomery Ward Retail Corporations as a Loss Prevention Manager.
In 1961, he wed Charlotte Gilbert and out of their union were born two devoted and loving children: Ruthann, husband Ahmad Lowery, three granddaughters: Kiara, Kayla, and Kiana and youngest daughter, Deneen Ford. He is preceded in death by both his parents and siblings: Kathryn Louise, Cleveland, Ohio; Donald T. (Ducky), Humble, TX; John D. (Butch), East Cleveland; and Adryenne F. Bates, Humble, TX. He leaves to mourn, sisters: Hazel Ann Saahir, East Cleveland, OH; Veronica E and Lauren Ford of Humble, Texas.
Throughout his military career, George received numerous awards and medals for distinguished service in the Army, including the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and Meritorious Service awards.
George was very active in Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) as the Texas Zone Coordinator for over 15 years. Throughout his life, George was an avid music lover, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and his beloved English Mastiff, Missy Ford.
George (GeeGee) nicknamed by his family, was dearly loved by his wife, children, family and friends and will be greatly missed.
George Franklin Ford, Jr. will be laid to rest in a military service on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 2pm at the Veterans National Cemetery located 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
