Born on May 3, 1969, to the late Carl Edward Ards and Denise Patricia Hooper, Gwen grew up with a strong foundation of faith and family. She gave her life to Christ at a young age and lived her life devoted to God, service, and love.
On August 21, 1992, she married the love of her life, Robert Earl Williams. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared a bond marked by faith, generosity, and joy. Gwen was a dedicated wife, a nurturing mother, and a joyful grandmother. Her heart found its greatest joy in spending time with family, hosting annual Easter celebrations, and creating lasting memories at Christmas gatherings.
Gwen was a proud and active member of Christian Tabernacle Church, where she faithfully served in the Timothy Projects program—baking birthday cakes, preparing cards, and caring deeply for the children in her community. She often rode alongside her husband, who drove the church bus, and lovingly supervised the children—so much so that many affectionately called her “Mama Gwen.” She also expressed her love for God through the church’s sign language ministry, always finding ways to serve others with compassion and grace.
Beyond her local community, Gwen’s compassion reached across borders. She adopted a child in Brazil and regularly contributed to organizations that supported children in need. Giving was in her nature—it was how she lived, loved, and led.
Those who knew Gwen will remember her as a woman of unwavering faith, boundless love, and gentle strength. Her life was a covering of prayer and a reflection of God’s grace.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Earl Williams; her children: Shemeka McCullough, ShaQuita Harris (Ron Harris), Sha’Reka Fuentes Renio (Dayro Fuentes Renio), and Robert Earl Williams Jr.; grandchildren: Jayonnie Harris, Jayniah Harris, Isaiah Daviss, and Queen Olivia Harris; siblings: Carvania Gonzalez, Tracey Adams, Carl Adams, Albert Adams, Clinton Ards, Patrick Ards, Carla Poullard, Kirk Ards, Carl Murchison Sr., and Tarsha Peterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Edward Ards and Denise Patricia Hooper; her son, Robert Earl Williams III; her brother, Kyneen Troy Ards; and her grandparents, Rachael Ann Travis, Acie Ards, and Freeman Hooper.
Gwendolyn Faye Williams will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
She leaves behind not only her immediate family but also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends—along with the many children who fondly knew her as “Mama Gwen.”
