Jocelyn Mitchell was born in 1954 in Asheville, North Carolina, passed away on April 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends who will cherish her memory forever. She was preceded in death by her beloved bonus mother, Fannie Jenkins. She leaves behind her cherished goddaughter, Amber Dukes of Atlanta, Georgia, along with a village of devoted family members and dear friends who loved her deeply, including her Alive Church family and her Conroe ISD community.
Jocelyn was a proud graduate of Asheville High School, Class of 1973. In her younger years, she played the piano for Sunday School devotions. She loved to spend time cooking, traveling, and most importantly, ministering the gospel. Jocelyn had a natural gift for connecting with people and found great joy in spending time with others.
She traveled across the country as an event planner for several companies in the Atlanta area. She later continued her passion for serving others as a Parent Liaison with Fulton County Schools in Georgia, where she worked faithfully until her retirement in 2015, when she relocated to Texas.
After years of retirement, Jocelyn decided to join the Conroe ISD Human Resources family. After filling in several times as a Substitute, she was convinced by her HR friends that she should become a permanent member of the team, and she did. It was another example of the many ways that she filled needs when she saw them. Jocelyn served the many employees and visitors who came into the HR reception area with a smile and extended a helping hand.
Jocelyn gave her life to Christ in 1987 and never turned back. The life she lived was truly a testament to her salvation. She was deeply involved in the ministry at Alive Church. She served faithfully as an usher and an intercessor. She could pray the house down and knew God heard her. Whether in the church or out in the community, she shared hope, often ministering to those in need, including the homeless.
Jocelyn was truly loved by so many in the church and the community. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her bold laugh, and her servant heart. Her personality showed everywhere she went. Her “eye rolls” had the ability to make you laugh and straighten up at the same time. She will truly be missed, and her memory will live on with the family and friends she leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Alive Church on April 18, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest in Asheville, North Carolina.
