Joe ("Popo”/”Pawpaw”) F. Kubeczka passed away peacefully on April 28, 2022 at Harmony Assisted Living in Conroe, Texas at the age of 96. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council # 6557 in The Woodlands.
He is the son of the late John and Mary Marshall Kubeczka. He was born in Chappell Hill, Texas on February 20, 1926 and was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School.
Joe worked on the family farm in Chappell Hill until moving to Houston in 1948. In 1950 he began serving in the U. S. Army in the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1953. After that, Joe worked for 35 years for Cameron Iron Works in Houston.
Joe met his wife Esther at a church bazaar at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill, Texas. They were married in Brenham, Texas on July 30, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Joe enjoyed gardening, yard work, deer hunting trips to Caldwell with sons, grandsons and son-in-law and fishing and family gatherings (fish fries, weddings, reunions, anniversary celebrations, etc.) in Houston, Brenham, Chappell Hill, Fayetteville and LaGrange. Joe especially had fond memories of his fishing and camping trips to Lake Somerville and Inks Lake and fish fries hosted by Msgr. Harry and Msgr. Ben at their country place in Fayetteville. These were special times he cherished with family.
Joe had a very deep affection for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever there was a need and for as long as he was able. In earlier years, he put in many hours helping each of us as we were starting out building our homes, garages, making improvements on our homes, etc.
Out of Joe’s ten brothers and sisters, Isidore is his only surviving sibling, and he made it a part of his afternoon routine to give him a call every day. Even during these past months of hospitalizations and rehabilitation, he thought of him often and called him on many days.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Esther Mazurkiewicz Kubeczka, his son and daughter-in-law Greg and Lorene Kubeczka, his daughter and son-in-law Mary and Tom Krolczyk, his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Roy Wierzbicki, his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Carole Kubeczka; ten grandchildren Catherine Musgrove and husband David, Joseph Kubeczka and wife Heather, Vincent Kubeczka and wife Catie, T.
