Tony’s life was marked by the simple, enduring gift of being truly beloved—held close in the hearts of those who knew him best and remembered with deep affection by all who had the pleasure of sharing in his days. On November 6, 1971, he married Maria Elena Villarreal in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, beginning a devoted partnership that anchored a growing family and a lifetime of cherished memories.
A love for baseball followed Tony through the years. It was his favorite thing—first as a player when he was younger, and later as a league president, where his steady presence and pride in the game helped bring people together and keep the spirit of the sport thriving.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Maria Elena Sanchez Villarreal; daughters Luz Elena Palomo Sanchez & Juan Arturo Palomo of Decatur, TX, and Blanca Elizama Sanchez-Martinez & Alfredo Rodriguez of Houston, TX; son Juan Antonio Sanchez of Houston, TX; 17 brothers and sisters; parents Rogelio Sanchez and Hermelinda Herrera; 7 grandchildren, Joshua Mateo, Jonathan Moises, Leslie Elizet, Makayla Miracle, Josiah Abraham, Jakob Izaiah, Delilah Destany; and 3 great grandchildren, Gracely Marie, Noah Mateo, and John Antonio.
