It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Kelly Kay Nelson Jr., better known as Pappy. At 57 years old in Spring, Texas, Kelly passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 5, 1963, living the majority of his life in Texas. To know Kelly was to love Kelly. He had a quick wit, quiet intelligence, the utmost respect from his colleagues, and a warrior's heart. Kelly served in the US Army, leaving him with a knack for extreme organization and fierce loyalty. There were three things he loved more than anything in this world... fishing, baseball, and his family. When he wasn't on the boat fishing with family or watching his oldest grandson play baseball, he was making plans for fishing or looking at stats for baseball.
He is survived by his wife Denise Nelson of Spring, Texas, daughter Veronica Whited and her husband Matthew Whited; son Nicholas Long and his wife Amanda Long; nephew David Nelson; and four beautiful grandchildren: Logan, Madelynn, Adam, and Franklin.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2:00pm at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 21723 Aldine Westfield Rd, Humble, Texas 77338. Memorial Donations may be made in Kelly Nelson's name to Camp Hope, 9724 Derrington Rd., Houston, TX 77064 (https://ptsdusa.org/give-help/).
The family appreciates all the love and support given during this time and wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Memorial Hermann The Woodlands ICU for their care and compassion.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.CalvaryHillFuneralHome.com for the Nelson family.
