Leola Mattox, a compassionate, devoted, resilient, and hard-working individual, passed away at the age of 93 on June 16, 2025. Born on January 15, 1932, in Groesbeck, TX, she was the daughter of Lela Addie Peterson-Prather-Davis & Freddie Lee Prather Sr.
At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal savior. After moving to Houston, TX, she recalled the days when her parents took her to church. She then attended and became a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, under the Pastoral leadership of Pastor A. A. McCardell and later under Pastors Dr. C.L. Jackson, & Pastor Sheldon Jackson.
She became active in choir, mission & Sunday school.
When health would not permit her to physically attend worship, she continued to cherish her time and would not miss Wednesday night bible study and prayer time on conference line with Family Fellowship Community Church, under Pastor Gerald Jones. And on Sundays she looked forward to worshiping with her churches via Facebook Live, both Pleasant Grove Baptist Church & Family Fellowship Community Baptist Church.
She found joy in working, singing hymns, and spending time with her family.
She was employed by Houston ISD & Aldine ISD, where she demonstrated her dedication and work ethic.
She was married to Leroy Mattox Sr., who preceded her in death, her parents Lela Peterson-Prather-Davis & Freddie Lee Prather Sr., plus 9 of her siblings James Prather Sr., Freddie Prather Jr., John Prather, Soloman Davis Sr., Ida Mae Jackson, Alma Broussard, Rozella Carroll, Eva Glen, & Dorothy Caples.
She was also preceded in death by 5 of her children, Andrew Mattox Sr., Charlotte Tate, Leroy Mattox Jr., Paul Mattox, and Lela Goodwin.
She is survived by 2 remaining children, Leonard Mattox (Cheryl) (Houston, TX). & Gloria J. Mattox )Houston,TX).

A visitation will be held on June 27, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338. A Celebration of Life will follow from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with a Committal Service from 11:00 am to 11:30 am at the same location.
Leola Mattox will be remembered for her compassion, devotion, and resilience, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to her family and community.
As she would always end her prayers with, “Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory Forever”. She is now rejoicing in the “Forever”.
