She was born to Paul W. Pigue, Sr. and Raye Coffman Pigue, in the tiny town of Friendship Tennessee, and was raised in Houston; she graduated from Milby High School, Class of 1955.
She met the love of her life, David, while still in high school. Married in 1958, she was blessed to have 44 years of her life with him until his passing in 2002.
Libby spent many years at home raising her children Paige, Lee and Anne - however saying “at home” belies the fact that she tirelessly volunteered countless hours of her time to community causes, including her church (Holy Cross Lutheran), leadership positions for her children’s multiple extracurricular activities, and especially their education, including many successful years serving as PTA president.
During these years she also enjoyed being involved in the Playhouse Theatre (an actress extraordinaire!) joined a square dancing group with David, and also her Bridge Club with friends from her youth and new friendships that lasted until her passing.
Once her children were raised, she seamlessly transitioned to the traditional workplace, her boundless energy and drive devoted to full time secretarial work in which she thrived and loved, ultimately rising the ranks high enough to become Executive Assistant to former United States Assistant Attorney General William Ruckelshaus for several years in his capacity at BFI.
Although she retired from BFI after many years there, her indefatigable energy had her once again entering the workforce, this time as the registrar at Northbrook High School in Spring Branch Independent School District. She adored “her kids” there and always took extra time to be there for them if one of them was having a bad day. They were blessed to have her and her positive impact in their lives. She retired after 10 years in this position.
Anyone Libby ever encountered in life - be it an acquaintance or long time friend or family member, knew her to be larger than life, a true force of nature. Incredibly energetic, outgoing, vivacious, generous with her time, and of course, always outspoken, Libby made an impact on anyone she ever knew, no matter if it was five minutes or fifty years. There was no one like her and her passing truly marks the end of an era.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband David, her brothers, Richard and Paul Pigue, and her sister, Virginia Pigue Calloway. She is survived by her daughter Paige Alexander, her son Lee Alexander and his wife Nan, her daughter Anne Alexander McIlhany and her husband Marc; her grandchildren Greyson and Ethan Huerta, Olivia and Victoria Alexander, and Austin, Jake and Katherine McIlhany, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A casual reception in honor of the life of Libby will be held on Saturday, July 9th from 1:00-3:00 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7901 Westview Dr, Houston, TX 77055.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Libby’s name be directed to the Houston SPCA or to the charity of one’s choice.
